Good Talk by Mira Jacob is a deeply relatable graphic memoir, which through having conversations with Jacob’s six-year old son, Z, discusses some of our most difficult questions in the society. The goal was to create a landing page that relates to the graphic style of the book, as well as conveying the central message.
Client: One World
The book already has a strong, distinctive visual style, therefore the site needs to carry out the same style yet not entirely repeating the same element. It is also important to create a memorable landing page that leads the viewers to buying the book.
Call To Action
The main CTA is to purchase the book, which can be found in the top right corner, or at the bottom after the viewers have an overview of the book.
I read the book several times to determine the themes and visual style, then I did a competitor research on campaigns, ads and other publisher's sites that informs my UI elements. After I determined the design directions, I started creating wireframes and prototypes based on the strongest direction.
I created an alternating title strips between "good" and "talk" on the landing page to establish a conversation between typography that reflects the dialogue style in the book. The book takes on a conversational style across time and space, so I want to turn the website into a platform for viewers to have a direct conversation with the book.
