DREAM

Book

Widely accepted concepts related to dream include: subconsciousness, reflection, memory etc. Whether dreams inspire creativity, or reflect personal mental state, there is a lot to be discussed on how dreams exist between the boundary of a real and fantastical world. The content of the book explores personal and other’s interpretations of dream and memory in three main ways: collection of objects and work depicting dream, interview and visual narratives that illustrate my dreamscape.

Materiality

To visualize concepts such as "reflection", "duality", "logical v.s. imaginary", "surreal" that I believe are associated with dream and memory, I have used and experimented with a variety of materials/crafting to show the many possibilities dream can be depicted. Some materials include: metallic paper, glossy paper, black cardstock, holographic vinyl etc. I have also tried to paint the title using glow-in-the-dark paint, yet due to technical difficulty, the glow did not come through as expected.

Process

Prior to creating this book, I have produced four booklets that investigate the same topic yet in very different layouts and styles. Part of the challenge of this project was to combine the contents from the booklets and create a final version with a cohesive but dissimilar visual style.
